Martin confirmed that he was the father of twin boys Valentino and Matteo Martin. The twins were delivered through gestational surrogacy and the mother has not been confirmed.

Martin received a Hispanic Heritage Award for his humanitarian work through the Sabera Foundation in rescuing three orphan girls from the streets of Calcutta. "To the rest of the world, he is Ricky Martin, international star, but to our children in Calcutta, he is simply Uncle Ricky," says Esther Canadas, a willowy model.

On Martin's third studio album A Medio Vivir, the disc featured "Maria" and "Te Extraiote olvido te amo." The album was an explosion on for international, fans selling over seven million copies. The album was re-issued in 2002 under the title "Coleccion de Oro".
