Penelope Cruz happily suffered for the art of film in the forthcoming flick 'NINE".

Starring alongside Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson, Cruz ended up bloodied during a scene in the film where she is hoisted up by ropes. Intent on making the scene the best possible, Cruz bled on set while swinging on ropes with her bare hands.

"She'd be the last one on the soundstage working and I'd have to say, 'Penelope, it's over!," says Director Rob Marshall.

"In the middle of the number she does all this work with ropes, swinging on them, and she had formed calluses and her hands were bleeding. We told her she would have to wear gloves but she was like, 'No, no, I have to feel it."

"We finished it and she was in tears, saying, 'I loved every second. I want to install ropes in my bedroom so I don't have to let go of it.'"

NINE is due in theaters this fall.
